Liverpool vs. Arsenal open thread
Here are the teams:
Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Agger, Gerrard, Cole, Jovanovic, Mascherano, Kuyt, Carr, Ngog, Skrtel. Subs: Cavalieri, Aurelio, Torres, Rodriguez, Babel, Lucas, Kelly
Arsenal: Almunia, Diaby, Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Nasri, Wilshere, Clichy, Arshavin, Eboue, Chamakh. Sub: Rosicky, RVP, Vela, Walcott, Song, Fabianski, Gibbs.
No Cesc Fàbregas; ugh.
Looks like a midfield of Wilshere, Eboue, and Diaby. Nasri, Arshavin, and Chamakh up front...

Really looking forward to this game
A really nice fixture to start the campaign. My prediction is 2-1 Arsenal.
Come on Arsenal
"We're investigating the investigative procedure of the investigation of Tony Bernazard"---Omar Minaya (he really didn't say it but he would"
Oh my apologies
Are you watching on FSC? I am watching a stream online. I will try to keep it down if that is the case.
No worries at all
It’s only about ten seconds.

So ummm who do we have that could play CB for the rest of the match if he's not able to return?
Because I don’t see any good options
Song. That's it.
If it’s against ten men for Liverpool, though, it could be worse.

Sagna to centre back
Eboue at right back and Walcott on

That's another possibility
Although I feel better, personally, about Song at CB rather than Sagna…

I'd be a lot easier if Koscielny just trotted out after HT
I thought Song was pretty much ruled out of this match. I guess we’ll find out.
Your wish is Kos' command
there he is, running back out.

A pleasant side effect of too many pints, no doubt.

Pleasantly surprised by holding midfield and defense thus far
Amunia, not so much.
And yes! Koscielny looks spry trotting out after half!

I had to jinx us.

The side with ten men is playing possession, it’s awful.

WOOOOOOOO
Reina the definition of clumsy right there
Hard to be happy with that
But all things considered, a point is a gift after that.

I am now in full dread mode with Blackpool coming up
4-0? It’s Wigan I know, but still.

Not truly worried
but it was the single most surprising scoreline of the week. I’m just hoping the Tangerines show us a better brand of soccer than the likes of Hull were able to, survive or not.

That, Villa's and Chelsea's scorelines were all surprising to me...
also [crap North London team] vs Man City… basically anyone who kept a clean sheet is surprising to me (because I don’t remember the last time we kept one).
This.
It's a point
but we were very ineffectual. Wilshere was disappointing in the defensive area.
We missed Cesc.

I felt Nasri looked good enough.
Cesc may have created more, but if that’s the role Fab takes on, it isn’t a massive upgrade.
Arshavin was the reason we looked so horrible. So many lazy losses on the ball, so many bad crosses and poor decisions.

He looked promising, but there were definitely a few mental lapses
Reyes, Thole, Wright, Beltran, Bay, Davis, Martinez, Tejada...

I tend to agree
no reason to get beat at the near post like that with your defender positioned where he is
Frustrated
but relieved.
I know we’ve got talented youngsters and all, but our central spine of the team looks weak.
This.
Yeah, losing with an extra man would have been tough to take
But once Liverpool got their goal, they sat back mostly with just Ngog/Torres being their main attacking option on their own
