both teams starting out with high press

dangerous airball into the arsenal box, cleared. Hope not to see too much more of that.

Song has an ugly new blonde hair job :/

the rain is making things harder for the defense.

Hopefully the same will apply when we attack their defense.

Almunia with a good save

but he banged his head against the goalpost, I hope he’ sok

by silverace99 on Aug 28, 2010 7:56 AM EDT reply actions

well we survived another header

This game will not end with a clean sheet…

by silverace99 on Aug 28, 2010 8:02 AM EDT reply actions

on the upside,

Almunia is looking….kinda good for once?

GREAT string of passes from left to right to find Walcott!!!

reminds me of that Rosicky-Arshavin move that ended in Walcott’s first goal vs Blackpool. What great vision and passing!

by silverace99 on Aug 28, 2010 8:06 AM EDT reply actions

In my opinion,

We got that goal because Blackburn’s midfield is getting explicit instructions to double Fabregas. Left a hole for us to exploit.

by silverace99 on Aug 28, 2010 8:07 AM EDT reply actions

One downside about not having Wilshire on the pitch

Is the constant humor of getting to see him stand beside Diaby.

by DCGunner on Aug 28, 2010 8:09 AM EDT reply actions

Fabregas really fast to get back there

hardly ever see him have to run like that…testament to his positioning

Great finish by Walcott

Set pieces from Rovers worrying though, no?

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

shit RVP hurt again

This is why i wanted Chamakh to start. An away game to a Sam Allardyce team is the last place I want to get RVP match fit….

by silverace99 on Aug 28, 2010 8:19 AM EDT reply actions

i would say generally they are both better that way.

which is sort of a problem because blackburn is packing it in the middle when they don’t have the ball, 4-4-2 → 4-5-1 look to me

Get Rosicky out there

And. fellas, it sounds great, but I gotta here more Arshavin!

Captain, there are doubt's...

by Match Day 5 on Aug 28, 2010 8:37 AM EDT reply actions

actually, i wish we had a wide winger to sub in for Arshavin

Arshavin is playing well, but we need to stretch the field a bit. Clichy looks like he can’t get forward, probably because he has his hands full marking diouf/kalinic. Our only wing threat is Sagna.

woooo beautiful backheel pass by cesc to chamakh!

And lo and behold the sun is coming out! Thanks MD5! XD

by silverace99 on Aug 28, 2010 9:00 AM EDT reply actions

Talk, guys

Vermaelen needs to be told Kalinic is on him like that

by Ted Harwood on Aug 28, 2010 9:01 AM EDT reply actions

Tommy for Cesc

looks tired. Ok, Tommy, do what you done so far again.

by Ted Harwood on Aug 28, 2010 9:13 AM EDT reply actions

With Rosicky

we’re just re-loading. Good 1st touch.

Captain, there are doubt's...

by Match Day 5 on Aug 28, 2010 9:16 AM EDT reply actions

...and crappy pass.

the ball isn’t going to stick to walcott’s head, diaby. don’t just blast the ball at him.

by silverace99 on Aug 28, 2010 9:18 AM EDT up reply actions

ohhhhhhhhhh!

damn nice cross field pass from rosicky, ball gets tapped to diaby but he can’t control it. It looked like a goal opportunity for sure :(

good reaction from Almunia

I hope to see more of Today Almunia and not yesterday Almunia!

by silverace99 on Aug 28, 2010 9:23 AM EDT reply actions

Big blackburn forwards giving us problems

Our defenders don’t have enough focus left over to prevent second chances…

Walcott again hits his favorite spot, low on the opposite corner, just a tad offside

by JoshuaR on Aug 28, 2010 9:30 AM EDT reply actions

ohhhhh dammit

wasted shot from rosicky after a blasting run from walcott down the middle.

by silverace99 on Aug 28, 2010 9:35 AM EDT reply actions

walcott maybe could have played Tommy through there, but hey

Good as we possibly could have hoped for

Away win against the team that generally gives us one of our toughest style matchups. Couldn’t play like we normally do but all our players played surprisingly well. We’re never going to dominate against a team that has a good defense and likes to press in the midfield like Blackburn did but we had enough possession to make opportunities.

Really pleased with Walcott, Clichy, Arshavin, and hell even Almunia. Worried about Robin though.

I was very impressed by Almunia for once. Looked confident in all his decisions, didn’t make any mistakes.

if he's gonna be the guy

he’s going to be able to take a lot of confidence from today, which is what he needs. He also was screaming at the defenders a lot after opportunities were given away.

by Ted Harwood on Aug 28, 2010 9:45 AM EDT up reply actions

We certainly gave Blacckburn some chances

Fortunately they didn’t have much to offer. A game like this against a more dynamic attack would have turned out very different. Hopefully our recent signing will only make us better.

by Match Day 5 on Aug 28, 2010 9:49 AM EDT up reply actions

Most of those chances were off throw ins or long free kicks

Nothing much to worry about from that. Those chances are always going to exist. Blackburn is just a team that takes a lot more of them than the average team.

That goal was worry some because it wasn’t luck it was just a team managing to totally break down our defense. Most of the actual chances were just a lucky cross/throw/long ball.

This is his season

I’m betting/hoping 15-20 goals by the end of the season.
