Arsenal vs. Stoke: open thread
Arsenal vs. Stoke City
Emirates Stadium, London
Kickoff: 830 AM EDT
TV: Fox Soccer Plus, foxsoccer.tv (with subscription)
SBN Stoke...perspective?: mainly anger.
Arsenal. Stoke. You all know the drill.
Arsenal fielding a bit of a shock lineup today: (4-3-3): Szczesny, Djourou, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Andre Santos, Song (c), Arteta, Ramsey, Walcott, Gervinho, Chamakh.
Subs: Fabianski, Frimpong, Rosicky, Benayoun, Park, Van Persie.
Two things: 1) clearly, Wenger felt it was time to rest RvP. I tend to agree, but I worry. 2) Song as captain!
This oughta be interesting.

I think Arsenal.com made a mistake
Surely either Arshavin or Miquel is on the bench

I hope we don't have to bring on RvP
Because that’d mean we’re not doing well

must be made of solid gold
with seats custom molded to each…oh they meant the contracts.
Captain, there are doubt''s...
On an Arsenal note
Not a bad idea to start Chamakh…he will give us more strength in the box today. I hope Wenger subs him Frimpong today too.

I'm experimenting with writing the match report while the match goes on today
so let me know if, when you get around to reading it, it seems weird somehow.

Captain, there are doubt''s...
Aaron Ramsey chips beautifully over Stoke's line for Gervinho to run onto, control, and fire home from seven.

the first one is more appropriate for this time of the game
the second one is more appropriate for the Van Persie winner last week

Commentator talking some crap about Arsenal not planning their free kicks
it’s “all off the cuff” for him. Yeah, right, shithead. A top club in the world doesn’t plan free kicks?
what are the possession stats?
I feel like we haven’t held it that much.
Captain, there are doubt''s...
hard to believe
maybe it’s that they just keep breaking up our attacks without ever really gaining possession themselves.
Captain, there are doubt''s...

Yeah. Chamakh could've headed that home or shot it home, though.
I love him, but he is 100% rusty right now.
I think Chamakh is bound for a goal in the 2nd half

On the plus side, Drogba won't be available.
He’s always been the Chelsea player who gave us the most headaches. Mata worries me at this point. Would only be typical if the player we missed out on came and beat us.
From Tom Adams, @tomEUROSPORT
“Szczesny looked up at the scoreboard when leaving the pitch and actually stopped in astonishment when he saw the United score.”
