Arsenal striker Robin van Persie to miss three weeks with knee injury
Dutch international and Arsenal forward Robin van Persie will miss three weeks with knee ligament damage, according to an interview with Arsène Wenger on the club's official website:
"We got bad news yesterday on the scan...he will be out for the next three weeks for sure...the shortest delay we can imagine is three weeks...it could even be longer...definitely out for Barcelona."
Midfielder Cesc Fabregas is making "quick and good progress" and is "possible" for Barcelona match. Theo Walcott, on the other hand, is out for Barcelona, and will miss at least two more weeks.
Alex Song also has a knee problem, but is in better shape overall. He will not play against Leyton Orient tomorrow, but has a "good chance" for Barcelona, according to the manager. Abou Diaby will play tomorrow night, and indeed could have played against Birmingham City, but Wenger said "I did not want to risk him for the intensity of the cup final".
Losing van Persie is obviously a big blow for the match at Nou Camp, and it looks as if he will miss a possible FA Cup sixth round match against Manchester United, too, should Arsenal advance. Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh will have to deputize in his place, and although neither offer the false nine play and structure that van Persie can, hopefully one or the other can re-discover their scoring form.
If Fabregas can play at Barcelona, it will be a big boost, as his absence leaves Arsenal without an incisive passing threat in the middle, at least on the evidence of the past few matches that the club has played without him. Samir Nasri, Tomas Rosicky, Abou Diaby, and Jack Wilshere would be the expected candidates to take his place, in no particular order, although Nasri seems to feature mainly on the wings these days.

#Arsenal refusing to disclose nature of RvP knee injury. I understand its ligament damage & may be long-term pending further assessment #afc
Hope he’s not writing the 2011 White Sox Anal too. -Sox Machine
As much as I love RvP I can't say I'm surprised by this
He is unbelievably fragile. I don’t know if Arsenal should really be counting on him as a significant contributor in the next couple seasons.
I'm waiting for the miracle of miracles
A full season of RVP. I think I’ll be waiting for eternity. So we have striker that can’t stay healthy for more than half a season, we have a striker who gets tired quickly (what’s the deal with Chamakh anyway?), a striker who thinks he’s better than he is in Bendtner (but has nice potential) and a striker who has yet to live up to anywhere near his billing and that I believe is on loan somewhere in England (Vela). Hm, maybe we do need some strengthening there. (I’d have put Walcott who Arsene swears is going to be a great striker, but I think he’s forever a winger. I don’t think he has the strength to be a pure striker).
Damn that Birmingham result made me pessimistic! knew this RVP thing was going to happen again at some point this season, but I was still holding out hope…..
If you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?
Fragile yes, but that goal/collision with his knee would have sidelined just about anyone, as a guy with major knee problems (me) can attest to. It is a shame because he’s a fantastic talent and he just can’t put a full season together.
Arsenal, where scoring goals is likely to result in injury.
Also see: Cesc breaking his fibula making a penalty.
THAT'S RIGHT, Kenny Wheaton you did. You cut back into GREATNESS.

I think Puyol broke it when he fouled Cesc to cause the penalty.
Thus, Cesc scored the goal with a broken leg!

Seems more probable that way
My own guess is he might have hairlined it getting scissored by Puyol, and completed the fracture on the penalty.

If he hadn't been in such ridiculously good form while he was well
this wouldn’t hurt nearly as bad. I, for one, like Chamakh and Bendtner, but they’re such a huge drop-off. And with Theo out, the only person I feel confident as a finisher right now is Nasri.
Here’s to praying for 1-1 @ Camp Nou, but thinking it’ll be more like 5-0.

This being RVP, I expect this injury to take at least double the amount of time to heal
RVP is such a tease. We get disillusioned by his injuries but when he is healthy he’s just so great. No one can compete with him when he’s healthy but we just need depth at forward to pick up the slack when he’s inevitably injured. Chamakh did a decent job earlier this season, I hope he or Bendtner can step up to the level we need in order to stay in this title race.
Luckily, he only misses 2 league games
and there’s a nice 2 week Interlull coming
Squeezed to Song and Bendtner and Song and Nasri oh lovely lovely lovely!
-Peter Drury, the one time his commentating has ever been acceptable.
hopefully the Netherlands won't try to get him to play
