Liverpool

Reina; Flanagan Carragher Skrtel Aurelio; Kuyt Spearing Lucas Meireles; Carroll, Suarez.

Meireles often comes into the middle to offer a third midfielder, and his crossing was good for Carroll last week

Because RvP celebrated for 30 seconds

Liverpool attacked, and got a free kick. Free kick was taken, and from that the pen happened

poor concentration/discipline

only thing we’ve been consistent at all year

I think it was excessive extra time

free kick should’ve been the end; he took it at 100. Two minutes for RvP celebrating? Really?

Lots of debate over where free kick was

and some shoving to sort out

That game summed up our season

1. Have trouble scoring
2. Do score
3. Cock it up.

For all the clamor about our defense

We have had one reliable finisher this year in RvP. One, and he’s missed half the games.

THAT'S RIGHT, Kenny Wheaton you did. You cut back into GREATNESS.

90' + 12'

I mean that sums up how fucking ridiculous that result is.

on the replay it's clear that lucas ran into eboue's path and obstructed him

that was not eboue’s fault at all.

Look at the end of the day

We could’ve cleared it and we didn’t. And that’s why we blew it.

Yeah

As I said above, this game is a microcosm of our season.

In a very weird way I'd almost rather Arsenal be actually bad at this point

I mean, on the face of it, Arsenal fans have nothing to complain about – second place, CL more or less assured for next season – but this season feels like a massive, massive failure and if they were suddenly to drop to sixth or seventh place I’d just kinda shrug my shoulders and say “yep, that’s about right”.

Well that would suck but honestly it is always more disappointing to always just be on the fringe of glory than to know you are middle of the table. Not saying I want Arsenal to be middle of the table though.

Dropping that far would be problematic, because we'd lose Champions League money

But we’ve definitely thrown the league away, I feel.
17 points dropped at home. 17.
Dropping 2 or 3 is okay. Even 5.
But with those 17 points, we’d be 11 clear of United.

So Wenger and some blogs may call being second, getting to the final of the Carling Cup the first time we take it seriously (is that really progress? We beat Newcastle reserves, Spurs Reserves, Wigan and Ipswich) a success, but I’m not sure.

Is this team better than last year’s? Yes, I think so. Is it better than the one of 2007-08? I’m not sure.
