Tottenham Hotspur vs. Arsenal: open thread
Kickoff: 2:45 PM EDT, White Hart Lane
TV: ESPN 2, ESPN 3, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Mobile
SBN Spurs Coverage: Cartilage Free Captain
Well, so here we all are again. Spurs and Arsenal. Three points or bust. It's clichéd to say this is a must win; this is a must win. Can Arsenal find a way to score from open play? Can Arsenal finish the match as strongly as they start? Will Cesc Fabregas' consecutive win streak at the table tennis yesterday carry over into today? So many questions, the answers to which lie underneath the turf at White Hart Lane, waiting to be excavated by the giants of the North London footballing landscape in what is sure to be the most epic clash since Achilles met Hector on the shores of West Turkey in the days when men were giants and giants roamed the earth and every blow was an earthquake and mountains were bodies and...sigh.
Just freakin' win, Arsenal.

Squeezed to Song and Bendtner and Song and Nasri oh lovely lovely lovely!
-Peter Drury, the one time his commentating has ever been acceptable.
I will not be able to follow the match
because have to coach my track team. This is awful because I will be beside myself until I see a score, but also a positive because our form in the league in games I don’t watch is quite good. (Europe is a whole other matter, but we don’t need to think about that right now.)
So hopefully that will lead to three points for the good guys in red. COME. ON. YOU. GUNNERS.

Diaby's been better the last 2 games
Not Wilshere better, but better.

Teams!
Arsenal: Szczesny, Sagna, Djourou, Kosicleny, Clichy; Song, Diaby; Walcott, Fabregas, Nasri; van Persie
Tottenham: Gomes; Corluka, Dawson, Gallas, Assou-Ekotto; van der Vaart, Modric, Huddlestone, Bale; Crouch, Pavlyuchenko
Spurs are going 4-4-2. Two big men to try and win the aerial battle, and also cause Arsenal problems (the switch to 4-4-2 changed it for Spurs at the Emirates).
van der Vaart will leave a gap on the right. We need to close him down and exploit our left

Spurs: Cudicini, Kaboul, Bassong, Lennon, Sandro, Pienaar, Defoe

That intro seemed awkward with an englishman trying to relate the rivalry to that of Boston/NY
Duke/NC, Chicago/Green Bay.
Chuck Norris doesn't need a bat.
he just roundhouse kicks the ball out of the park.
Timmy Sherwood can go DIAF and STFU in any order he pleases
I see it 3-1 to Arsenal with van Persie getting first goal

I haven't been able to watch the first half at all
Has Arsenal looked decent? Scoreline would suggest a certain level of defensive clownshoes, but three goals is a good thing!

busy goalies, crosses, corners, inside, outside

Arsene looked absolutely tortured for most of the match
and I think that is a great thing.
Maybe, just maybe, he’s tired of having to answer for this nonsense and will commit to changes.
On the bright side, I loved what we did with Theo going through the middle a bit. Just need to see more of it, and the remainder of the season is a great opportunity to try. I hope we do.
If he hasn't changed by now he probably won't
He’s looked that tortured since about February, and nothing has changed. I’m not in the “fire Arsene” camp by a long shot, but I hope that this summer either Kroenke or someone pulls him aside and says “hey you know what it’s not working, here’s £millions, go get a few players”. Youth is great, and I usually hate the “gotta get a grizzled veteran presence” argument, but this team needs someone who will grab them by the scruff of the neck and not let them lose games like today’s. Or like Newcastle. Or like…on and on and on.
Arsene has to make changes or he has to go
End of.
This is what, the 6th lead we’ve blown this year?

What changes?
Stop playing the high line? Buy Julio Cesar? Buy borussia dortmund’s entire back line?

How many points is W-O-J-C-I-E-C-H-S-Z-C-Z-E-S-N-Y worth?
THAT'S RIGHT, Kenny Wheaton you did. You cut back into GREATNESS.

None because names are not allowed in Scrabble
but if it were and if Wojciech were played across a triple word score in one of the corners it would be a whopping 234 points – 25 for the letters, a bonus point for the I (or the E if on the other corner) being on a double letter score, and two triple word scores. 25+1 = 26×3 = 78×3 = 234.
In a typical Scrabble game I score about 260 points.
What...what is the point?
I do not want to watch the Man United game. It’s like asking to get punched in the face.
