Yeah

They missed a pretty obvious penalty a few minutes before that though, although that was likely making up for the goal that didn’t cross the line. Poorly referee’d game all around, not just the two highlight blunders.

He's great at air guitar, eh?

Seriously – if only this game truly mattered. Think there’s any chance Chelsea and Man Utd will just forget how to play football for the next month?

by Learn2Leaf on May 1, 2011 11:10 AM EDT up reply actions

I mean, playing in the Champions League matters to me.

Not having to play in the qualifying rounds matters. And if nothing else, getting a little of the bad taste out of the team’s collective mouth before this season ends matters.

And hell, maybe Manchester United and Chelsea will suffer 22 separate maladies, a la the Springfield Power Plant softball team.

This game mattered tremendously

The league’s gone, and that’s fine. But this game mattered for the Arsenal psyche, which was starting to look like a chunk of Swiss cheese that has been left on the counter for a month. Make no mistake, this was a massive win for Arsenal – Arsene has long talked about the belief that this is a good team, and everyone believed it except the team. Beating the champions-elect, and beating them 1-0, is HUGE for this team, and I’m so happy that I woke up to see this scoreline I feel like dancing around my living room.

This was a big, big win.

by pdb on May 1, 2011 12:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed.

Sorry you didn’t get to see it, it was 90 minutes of the skill that we all know we have, and the spirit nobody appears to believe we have.

On a Sunday morning, I’m not getting up at either 3 or 6 AM to watch a game unless it’s a cup final. Especially on a Sunday morning after a Timbers game.
