Official Transfer Thread
Since no one has made up a transfer thread yet, I'm going to oblige. It seemed like a popular opinion in pdb's thread.
This thread is for all transfer related rumors, gossip, dreams, hopes, and fears.
I'm not sure if we'll need to make a new thread periodically but I'm sure we can cross that bridge when we get there. I'm hoping this thread will keep the rest of the blog free of any transfer related trash and let Ted and Beltrans keep up with actual Arsenal news and topics.
So to get this thread started, Samir Nasri hasn't yet signed a new contract with the club. Are his(his agent's) demands too high, or is he waiting to see if Cesc leaves or other players come in. He was superb early in the year but tailed off when he picked up niggling injuries.
Other transfer stuff:
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain linked to Arsenal again after we almost signed him in January.
Gervinho, the Lille forward is set to leave his club with us as a possible suitor
Bendtner's father seems to think he's worth £12 million.
Blackburn's Chris Samba is a possible defensive option
Feel free to add your own, I'm sure people have opinions on whoever is mentioned.

If Bendtner's father want's to pay 12m for him, then I say SELL!!

"It’s a good opportunity to show we have the strength to respond" - Arsene Wenger, 2011
From The Daily Mail...
’Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City have been alerted to the news that Real Madrid may be willing to sell Gonzalo Higuain for just £15m.
‘The Argentina international scored 13 goals in 25 appearances last season despite four months out with a back injury.’
Higuain for £15M? Sounds like rubbish to me… Anyone with a sharp enough tactical eye to speculate how he would work with RVP? I think of Higuain as a poacher in the Van Nistelrooy mold, but I don’t watch many Real Madrid matches.
it's hard to believe that price
but maybe there are other factors we don’t know about. This would be a great improvement of our finishing. Maybe RVP moves back and plays along side Cesc sening balls through for nasri, higuain and theo?

I can only see that happening if they keep Adepaymore.
Higuain scored 29 goals in 40 games in ‘09-’10 — if he’s available for that price, we have to put a bid in.

We were linked to Higuain last offseason but since he was coming off a solid season at Madrid no one gave it pause
I think Higuain and RVP would play pretty well together. Higuain could play up front allowing RVP to take on a more free creative role around the 18. Robin is too creative of a player to be sitting up top being a target for headers. Of course this would mean a change back to a 4-4-2 formation or Robin to play out on the left or right in the current formation which is less ideal.
I saw Odemwingie linked somewhere.

So I was in Milan today and I don't know Italian...
Did AC Milan offer something for Fabregas? Because that is what I think I read in the paper I saw Cesc’s face on the cover of but I could be way off.

Apparently gives us at least 54 Million and a middle finger to Barca.

I read this on ESPN Soccernet's transfer blog that made me laugh:
El Mundo Deportivo has claimed Arsenal have told Real Madrid to open the bidding for Cesc Fabregas at £50m. Quite why they’d tell them to ‘open the bidding’ at that price isn’t clear, unless they plan to reject the amount they told them to offer.
“How much would you like?”
“Start the bidding at £50m.”
“How about £50m?”
“No.”

The translation was off, but he's still being a prick about the whole thing
So yeah, fuck you Nasri.
Wanting £110,000 a week.
The only one who makes that is Fabregas.
And there about 3 other players who deserve that sort of money ahead of you.
Anyway, we won’t sell Nasri to United. We’ll sell to Real/Barca or one of the Italian clubs and he can make £110,000 a week and sit on the bench, like Flamini did.
Squeezed to Song and Bendtner and Song and Nasri oh lovely lovely lovely!

I'll bet this is only a negotiation tactic
Just look how far Rooney went in order to get the contract he wanted. I would be Nasri wants to stay but his agent is just trying to get as much for his client(and himself) as he can. I really doubt we’ll be selling him any time soon. I also wonder if he’s waiting to see who Wenger brings in and/or if Cesc stays or goes.
He and his agent should realize what this means to the fans.
Real Madrid, AC Milan, even Barca — fine. But not Man United.

And summer of Wenger starts...
With the signing of a teenage defender! woooo… wait, what?
Arsenal have signed Charlton Athletic’s Finland Under-21 defender Carl Jenkinson for an undisclosed fee.
Jenkinson, 19, came through the Charlton youth ranks and follows Jonjo Shelvey – who joined Liverpool last summer – in making the step up from the Addicks academy to the Premier League.
The teenager, who played for England Under-17s before switching allegiance to Finland – the country of his mother’s birth, can play anywhere across the back four.
OK… maybe he’s building to something.
Jenkinson is rated very highly
Squeezed to Song and Bendtner and Song and Nasri oh lovely lovely lovely!
-Peter Drury, the one time his commentating has ever been acceptable.
We need a backup RB, as we don't really produce them for some reason
If Eboue is gone, and perhaps he doesn’t have the right confidence to play there as Arsene keeps switching him, and I think Eboue is the type that needs consistency, he’s a good replacement.
If you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?
Couldn't agree more
He’s going to be one of the top defenders in the Bundisliga in the near future. I don’t think he every got a real fair chance to break into the team. We could have given him a shot this year instead of Squillaci. Also thought we didn’t give enough of a chance to Fran Merida.
If you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?
He is?

Perhaps, but I think he personally is going to develop into a top defender
I think our defense sucks, but I think Sagna is one of the top RBs in the league. That’s what I’m thinking for Nordveit.
If you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?
More rumours from Spain
Apparently Barca and Cesc have agreed on personal terms.
Which they did last winter. And last summer. About 6 times.
Honestly, all of this noise is to lower his evaluation.
They’re not getting him unless they spend £50m+.
Given that they have Thiago and Jonathan Dos Santos, I’d be be shocked if they did.
Squeezed to Song and Bendtner and Song and Nasri oh lovely lovely lovely!
-Peter Drury, the one time his commentating has ever been acceptable.
Given that they spent 100 million on Ibrahimovic, Villa, and Mascherano over the last few years and they are having money issues (to the point of having to agree to a shirt sponsor for the first time in club history) I doubt they can afford the 50 million it would take and really 50 million is a fair price when you evaluate transfers like Torres, Carroll and Ibrahimovic.

Yep
Though I tried to keep City out of the equation since they are just way out there when it comes to transfers.
Henderson was 20 million though? Damn Liverpool. Sunderland definitely got their money’s worth. Between this sale and that of Darren Bent they should be set to start spending some cash later on.
by Roa on Jun 8, 2011 8:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Well, yeah. In business terms:
Cesc to Barcelona – 50 million pounds.
Cesc to Man City – 100 million pounds and a player of Wenger’s choice.
Nature of the game. City are annoyingly cocking everything up in England… much like Chelsea. I hope they never win the league.
I wonder what Edin Hazard’s price tag is gonna be like nowadays lol, everyone in Europe wants the kid.
Say hi to the bad guy.
Yankees/Flyers/Gunners
Yeah the fact that he was the playmaker on the French champions got him a lot of media attention
Along with the fact that he was linked to us before this season has risen his price beyond us probably.
Hell, if Nasri wants to leave us no matter what, trade him for Hazard!
I imagine his pricetag will get even higher if Gervinho is sold first. Losing Hazard, Cabaye AND Hazard going into the CL and trying to defend their League title? Ouch!
If you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?
* Meant losing Hazard Cabaye and Gervinho
If you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?
I truly doubt Nasri wants to leave for a Ligue 1 club, even the champions.
He’ll stay with us or be traded to a Bayern/Milan type club.
I know he doesn't, but if he wants to treat us dirty (if that's what he's doing)
send him there, like it or not. I was kidding anyway, my sense of humor isn’t always distinguished. He will leave one day to return to Marseilles as he has Marseillaises blood.
If you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?
indeed. You gotta estimate his price is about 25 million right now anyway. Wenger’s biggest signing is Wiltord for 13. It just aint happenin unless Cesc goes for what he’s worth (40 atleast). I don’t think they would even make the move for Hazard if Nasri goes (shudders at the thought)
Say hi to the bad guy.

Matudi
Rarely do I feel this strongly but this guy is PERFECT.
Sign him up!!!
Say hi to the bad guy.
Yankees/Flyers/Gunners
The guy from ASSE?
I don’t know, didn’t he just get into a fight with a team mate at the end of the season. Could use a cover DM in case we loan out Coquelin again and Frimpong doesn’t work out but there are better ways to spend 10+ million.
I think we need a more veteran presence at defensive mid, so I'd rather see Coquelin and Frimpong go out on loan
I don’t know a whole lot about Matuidi but he has a decent reputation in the Ligue 1.
I like M'villa over Matudi if we get the chance to get him
but I do like Matudi. I haven’t seen as much of him as M’villa though (when he plays for my French national team). He’s a tough little guy though, who will make his presence felt in the middle of the pitch. Good thing too is that we wouldn’t lose him to the African Nations Cup obviously because he’s French, so he’d be good cover/temp replacement for Song. Put both of them in if we need more defensive steel in midfield, as he is capable of making plays offensively when called for.
If you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?
not familiar with M’villa, tell me about him.
The reason I’m endorsing Matuidi like this is because he has a defend first mentality, with a rugged element in his game. How he would work in the lineup rotation would sort itself out. I just love that he has a reputation of hard nosed tackling and aggression. At around 10 million or so it seems a very realistic Wengeresque signing. The downside is he is a little guy, and that concerns me a little bit in the set piece game.
Say hi to the bad guy.

Emmanuel Rivière has been linked
Nice young player, but I’d prefer a strong in the box striker, as opposed to more drifting strikers. He has been likened to King Henry which is positive I guess.

Looks like Gervinho is a definite possibility. We've set up talks with him and Lille.
Apparently Hazard isn’t for sale this year so even if we could afford him it wouldn’t be right now. (Makes sense as selling their entire attacking base months after winning the league seems stupid)
Love Gervinho. He’s looking almost like a sure thing for us once the window officially opens July 1st. Everyone should get acquainted with this guy.

The summer transfer window is open now
it opens the day a country’s season ends and closes August 31.
thats not true, only in england does it open the day the season ends. In a lot of countries (spain, france, italy, germany) it opens july 1st so in effect that’s the day which international transfers could be made official. Right now transfers within england can be made, not outside.

How realistic is Benzema?
Yeah you hear a lot of crazy stuff nowadays but this one intrigues me.
I really believe Wenger covets Benzema and might jump at him given the chance… Given his transfer history we all know he doesn’t normally go above 15 million but I really think he would (within reason) in this case. It’s Benzema’s availability that becomes the question. With RM potentially adding Aguero and keeping Adebayor around I think he might be the odd man out.
On Arsenal’s side, they would have to theoretically choose between him and Gervinho. If everything falls into place, Benzema for like 17 to 21 million is a possibility.
Say hi to the bad guy.
Yankees/Flyers/Gunners
From Sandro Rosell ubber dildo at Barca, they don't have the money to spend on Cesc this summer

And apparently we are now close to signing Ricardo Alvarez from Velez in Argentina
Of course we have been close to signing a number of players so far this silly season
Not sure what to think of that one. Never even heard of him and he is old enough that he’d be expected to find his place in the squad right away so he isn’t a developmental player. Not sure I’m that excited about an uncapped 23 year old who has never played in a major European League.
That said it does look like a number of clubs (main competition is Palermo) are interested so maybe he was just a late bloomer.
Idk why Wenger wants to bring this kid in, unless he plans on clearing shop (ie. Nasri, Arshaven, etc.) and replacing them with this kid. His play is more suited to leagues like La Liga, and considering Malaga is in the mix with their new money, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he passed on us and went there instead
This article on Yahoo! today: Nasri to ShitUnited for$20mil?
If everybody wants our players, why did we play so poorly so often last year?
Captain, there are doubt's...
"It’s a good opportunity to show we have the strength to respond" - Arsene Wenger, 2011
An Arsenal record bid for Spanish midfielder Mata. 18 million pounds.
Two thoughts: A) another Spaniard? What could go wrong!?
B) It is mildly warming that 18mil is Arsenal’s highest offer for any player. Arshavin’s 13mil being the previous record. Sure it has put the club where it is, but we can’t say they throw money out the door.
For a left winger? Buh bye Nasri.
Not sure I’d want him for 18 million. Rather spend that on a CB.
I doubt it.
Barcelona aren’t exactly being very fair with regards to price, or for that matter anything else.
If the board is half as petty as I am they’ll refuse to sell to Barcelona unless they exceed fair market value just because they’ve been dicking us around for the last few years.
Think about it though...
We value Cesc at 45 mil., which I doubt we’ll ever get (unless the Qatar Foundation and Unicef donate themselves, wouldn’t be too surprising would it?), but if Barca bid for at least 35-38 mil., I’d jump on it immediately. With that extra cash, not only could you bring in Mata, but also Alvarez, Gervinho, and Samba or Cahill, or both, AND re-sign Nasri. So for giving up one player, you could end up with 4 or 5 in return, sounds like a good deal to me.
And I found it quite interesting that 13 mil. is the most we’ve ever spent on a player, we’ve done quite well for the most part…
So Quantity is better than Quality?
Captain, there are doubt's...
"It’s a good opportunity to show we have the strength to respond" - Arsene Wenger, 2011
13 million is our transfer record because Arsenal is not a billionare tycoons plaything. I take pride in the fact it is a classy, properly run football club.
How about we just keep him another year if the bid is not right, his contract runs 4 more years and he is far more valuable to our squad.

Soccernet saying that Barca have met Neymar's €45M release clause
If so, they can sure scrape together a few more euros and pay what we want for Cesc (since City will probably outbid them for Neymar). The game is up, chumps.

Rumor has it we turned down a £10 bid from a Turkish club for Diaby...
which begs the question….why?
(via Gunnerblog and Arseblog)
"I guess no one told him justice was a team sport"
I think Wenger still has super high hopes
more than he does for Diaby’s fellow misfits Denilson and Eboue, probably. Just my guess, though.
I understand the high hopes...
But getting offered 10 mil for a guy who is injured 75% of the time and has been less than stellar the other 25% seems like too good of a deal to pass up. Or at least I think so. Hell, we could pay Nasri 110,000/week for almost 2 years with that money (not saying we SHOULD, just saying we COULD).
This is all just a rumor though. Hasn’t been confirmed by the club and the Turkish team that allegedly placed the bid wasn’t even specified…
"I guess no one told him justice was a team sport"
Because ten pounds isn't very much money.

by Ben Schneider on Jun 29, 2011 5:35 PM EDT up reply actions
Oh, completely. He's still worth more.
But just getting the feeling that this won’t be a hold on to him summer. Last year I was far more certain Cesc was staying. This year, I’m leaning the other way. If Fabregas stays it is because Arsenal truly resisted a serious offer rather than just the Spanish games they play.
I think the current low-balling is A) to show the fans they are working for it and B) the excuse if it doesn’t come through. The deal will probably be around 40-45mil euros if it happens. (Or some version of a player swap which I’m not totally for because it’ll be to get a younger player and Arsenal already have enough of those.)
My bad...
Just checked in with Soccernet that Barca has made their final offer for Cesc, at 32. mil pounds, and that Arsenal will more than likely accept the deal. Interesting though, because Udinese have reported that City have dropped out of the race for Alexis Sanchez, and that Barca has made a 50 mil. deal for him. Considering that Rosell said Barca only has 45 mil. for transfer funds… Any word on any of this?
Anyone getting frustrated with the Silly Season a little earlier than normal?
The basic story is “Arsenal stars are leaving” with “Wenger vows to fix the team” and “Arsenal linked with player X” with about 8-10 different names mentioned – knowing they’d never sign all of them and next to no important signings confirmed.
Way to unsettled for my liking. I need to ignore more of this.
it's generally good to ignore it if it makes you feel bad

Apparently, Arsenal today has interest in bringing in John O’Shea from United. I’m going to go ahead and call complete B.S. on that one, because there’s no way Fergie would sell him to us. A more believable word I heard though was us offering a reserve player like Lansbury and cash (not sure how much) for Gary Cahill.
