How many yellows does Arteta have?

Maybe we’re saving him for ManU and he’s not really injured!

O/Ur 0.5 on Arsenal getting a penalty today

I’m going with under cuz the refs never give Arsenal a penalty shot even when it’s so obvious.

Hey, first time commenting here.

Been following Arsenal only for the last few months, but a soccer fan for a long time. Glad I’ve been able to follow a great SB Nation blog for the Gunners as it’s definitely helped me learn the team.

What a great first goal for Robin and they look like they’re passing pretty well so far.

by JbCapsFan on Jan 15, 2012 11:11 AM EST reply actions

Thanks. I basically learned hockey by reading the Capitals SB Nation blog over the last couple years so when I decided to finally start watching the Premier League after meaning to for so long I was glad to see a well set up blog.

It’s a decision I’d been meaning to make for a long time, but never had the time or effort or really even the ability to watch the matches. Picked Arsenal after considering all the options and definitely getting into it.

Soft penalty call

Far, far worse hasn’t been called. Shit officiating, as per the usual this season

"I know you're from Middle America, and sometimes you feel like you're representing more than just a school or a conference, maybe an entire group of American citizens out there."

if anything, that dude should have gotten a yellow for diving

by Twin Cities Hawk on Jan 15, 2012 11:21 AM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

i agree

he clearly embellished, or simulated, greater contact. that should be punished, per the laws of the game.

by KC Gunner on Jan 15, 2012 11:22 AM EST up reply actions

truth

that is the key point. would love to see Aaron grab the winner on this trip back to Wales, esp after that bogus penalty decision.

by KC Gunner on Jan 15, 2012 11:24 AM EST up reply actions

I disagree

the Swansea man had possession and Ramsey kicked out his ankle. If you’re running/turning and someone kicks your ankle, most people go down.

by Loose Seal on Jan 15, 2012 11:23 AM EST up reply actions

maybe so

But again I’ve seen far greater contact not called.

That doesn't mean that wasn't a penalty

Just because referees are incompetent, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a foul.

True

and we’re used to seeing Gerv and RVP run through tackles like that
(though that would probably bring Walcott down, and he doesn’t get a lot of those calls)

by Loose Seal on Jan 15, 2012 11:29 AM EST up reply actions

looks like he was going down before Ramsey made any contact and any contact Ramsey did make, didn’t really affect the play.

oh well, I think we’ve all seen far worse called against Arsenal.

by LouisMurphy'sLaw on Jan 15, 2012 11:21 AM EST up reply actions

Bogus

Commentator says no doubt Ramsey clipped him. Didn’t look like actual contact to me. Would love to see some more slow-mo replays.

by KC Gunner on Jan 15, 2012 11:17 AM EST reply actions

Looks like he does clip him slightly

but the man was off-balance and certainly made the most of it

by Dr. Copp on Jan 15, 2012 11:18 AM EST up reply actions

the obvious embellishment

of what could only, at most, have been utterly minimal contact is what leads me to call it a a dive – or in the words of the Laws of the Game, simulation.

I just hope it’s not another score early fade late performance for Arsenal. We’ve all seen too much of that this season.

Swansea are tough to score on at home. Arsenal wouldn’t be the first good team to struggle at this ground.

And even when Ramsey does something right

It doesn’t work out

he's had a 50% success rate

he’s done exactly two things right today. one led to an Arsenal goal, the other didn’t.

small sample size, though

No more replays

The last time Arsenal had one, they scored

Nice set up from Ox

Would have been some goal from Rosicky….

by Dr. Copp on Jan 15, 2012 12:47 PM EST reply actions

Ox can beat a man 1 on 1 better than anyone else on this team.

Kos is trying to inspire this team to victory. Have to credit his performance today.

maybe not "bad"

but one goal doesn’t make a performance. he’s been nearly invisible (not entirely his fault, but still)

Yeah exactly, that’s my point. Not a great performance, but we wasn’t at the crux of our woes this game.

I’m being a bit harsh because I’m really pissed off.

Miquel deserves to be on the Good list, aside from that I completely agree

by LouisMurphy'sLaw on Jan 15, 2012 12:53 PM EST up reply actions

It seemed like Miquel made a few mistakes, but Kos and Song covered for him well, so they didn’t get noticed.

Spend or sink, AW

The magic run is over. We just don’t have the talent.

Correlation here

We always seem to have terrible refs when we play terrible football.

by Nathaniel Perlow on Jan 15, 2012 12:55 PM EST reply actions

I don't think he was that bad

dubious penalty, but I thought pretty much every other decision he made was okay. can’t think of other screw-ups, at least.

Penalty was iffy

But then again, Swansea probably deserved to come out ahead anyway. Official was fine

by Dr. Copp on Jan 15, 2012 12:57 PM EST up reply actions

We have certainly had games in the past where I thought a fair amount of blame went to the referee

this was not one of them. Our inability to keep, get, or distribute the ball in midfield was the primary reason we lost (which was in large part caused by Swansea beating us there, not just us being bad).

Honestly, I think Wenger's plan to get back to the Champion's League

Is to win the Champion’s League.
