So It's Come To This: the deadline day thread
It's finally here, that Day Of Days, the transfer deadline day. At around 6pm eastern US time the window is shut, and for a few glorious days the rosterbation will end (or at least tail off a little bit) until people realize that there's another transfer window opening in only FIVE SHORT MONTHS! and start spouting off about various places Eden Hazard might get sold.
In case you can't tell, I'm going to be really happy when this is all over.
Anyway, nothing is probably going to happen with Arsenal, aside from (possibly) the official announcement of the signing of Thomas Eisfeld from Borussia Dortmund, which we talked about a bit yesterday. Still, though, here's a thread to discuss whatever does happen. It's January so there probably won't be too much (unless Chelsea and Liverpool go nuts again and buy some more strikers who can't score or Harry Redknapp tosses more of his ill-gotten cash at random people), but, you know, something interesting could go down.
So someone please keep an eye on Sky Sports News then and let me know if anything interesting happens. I'll just be sitting over here staring at Twitter for the next eight hours or so.

RUMOR:
Burak Yilmaz from Trabzonspor, €14m
Likelihood level: 5 of 10
I’ve never heard of him because I don’t watch Turkish football, so this is totally the kind of player I could see us buying because it would piss off 75% of the fanbase. On the other hand, it’s a Twitter rumor so it’s probably bollocks. It’s probably not happening.

(for reference, I would have put the Arteta deal at an 8 of 10 right up until it happened, so there's that)

Yilmaz is a beast…leading goalscorer in the Turkish league by a country mile
Arsenal could make a move for him in the summer and go back to a 4-4-2 formation

The 4-4-2 has grown unpopular
It’s unlikely for a large club to go back to it. I, however, think that it’s a perfectly decent formation, though I’m not sure it would work so well for an attack minded team like Arsenal anymore.

A number of large clubs still employ it, particularly at home
In the EPL alone Manchester City and Manchester United spring to mind. Norwich, Liverpool, and Newcastle have used it as well.

I know Everton does as well
But, it does seem to be going out of “fashion”. I rather like it, though I do see some of it’s limitations.
if you mean how it's not as prevalent as in the past, that's definitely true
I think these days where there is more emphasis on winning the midfield battle, it has some problems. But much depends on the personnel on the pitch as well.

Yeah, that's what I mean
I also have a feeling that a good number of fans have some sort of a vendetta against it. Or maybe that’s just USMNT fans.
Well I was watching the Panama game
And it was just too easy for the Panamanians to launch long balls from the half way line to their target man, who threatened to score way too many times to count. If the US had deployed an extra midfield man to close down the Panama mids, it might have been a less nervy game.

ACTUAL THING:
Ryo Miyaichi on season loan to Bolton, via Young Guns. He is not eligible to face us on Wednesday.

Pretty much
Unless it’s taking on a surprise loan, I don’t see anything happening either…

Some News!
The “Ice Rink” has been signed, apparently for 600,000 instead of 400,000, and actually will be training with the first team today…
This happened some time ago, but Hazard has come out and said that he prefers a move to England, probably means nothing though if Barca or Madrid show up with 40 mil. on Lille’s doorstep…
I also found out that Gotze has a stress fracture in his hip, that sucks because those are pretty complex and lengthy injuries (see Jack, and Yao Ming…)
And finally, apparently the Russian transfer window doesn’t close until Feb. 24th, so if some Russian team like Anzhi or Zenit want a bid at Arshavin, they’ve got an extra three weeks…

Hazard and Verminator are cousins.
That helps in our favor at least a little bit.

I could definitely see that be false
However, they at the least know each other through the Belgian National team. Certainly hope it’s not made up
In case you were wondering
nothing interesting has happened

It official...
…the “Ice Rink” is here.
“It’s a real honour to be team mates with the great players at Arsenal, and also training everyday with players like Tomas Rosicky – who I grew up watching play at Dortmund. I will give it everything I have here and do my best to make the manager, players and fans happy.”
does that mean he has Dortmund DNA?
