The other day, I did something very out of character for me. I was running errands, and after driving around the mall parking lot for 10 minutes futilely looking for a spot (side note - the two things I hate most in the world are driving and malls, so you can probably guess what kind of mood I was in) looking for a spot, I found one and dove into it quickly before anyone else could. But, it turns out that someone else was waiting for that spot; he was coming from the other direction and my view was blocked by another car.
So I park, then I hear a horn honk, but I'm kinda pissed at how long it took me to find a spot so I didn't think anything of the horn. I get out of the car, and some dude is yelling at me - 'THAT IS MY SPOT, I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR IT'. The parking lot was crowded, and I was already a good 20 feet from my car, so I apologized to him and kept walking. He then got out of his car and started walking after me, yelling about how I stole his spot; I just kept walking and apologizing, but at that point I was getting pissed at him for overreacting, and somewhat afraid he was going to actually come after me and fight, so I wasn't exactly in a conciliatory mood.
Had he been reasonably cool about it, I probably would have gotten back in my car and given him the spot; the louder he yelled, though, the more I dug in my heels. I went about my errands, which took about 20 minutes (YOU DAMN WELL BETTER APPRECIATE THE FRESH LITTER, CATS), and headed back to the car. Where I find the guy whose spot I took, waiting for me. He started in again about how I stole a spot he'd been waiting for, and how he was pissed that all this happened "in front of his kid" (like his reaction to what happened was my fault), and there was a lot of swearing and accusing me of being a dickbag.
I quickly ran through a list of responses in my head, and settled on the one I thought wouldn't get me punched in the face - I asked him "Honestly - right now, at this point, when what's done is done, what do you want me to do about it?" He apparently took that as goading, because he got up in my face and said 'YOU DON'T WANT TO PUSH ME, MAN'. I told him to calm the f**k down, got in my car, and drove away, with him staring me down the whole time.
While readily conceding that me taking the parking spot was kind of a douche move - and one that 99.99999% of the time I would never do - am I wrong in thinking that his reaction was completely out of proportion with what happened? I've had people steal spots from me before, and generally I just flip them off or something and then go find another spot. I have been hyper-vigilant in parking lots since this happened because I really don't want to have anything like this happen again.
So, today's question: Have you done anything recently that goes against your normal code of ethics/morals (remember, kids, if you've done something illegal, don't talk about it here...)? How did/will you ensure you don't do it again? Or is it something you found that you want to do again?
Also, for all the complaints some have had about Arsenal's ownership and the direction of the club, I give you the cautionary tale that is the Miami Marlins. What's going on in your world this week?
