Putting up NSSR a day early this week, as tomorrow's going to be kind of a hectic day for me. Working until about 2, then getting in the car and driving up to Seattle to spend Thanksgiving with a bunch of friends and family and booze and food.
Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday of all time. It doesn't have the gift-giving obligation or rituals, it has no religious or spiritual underpinnings; it's just people getting together with people to eat too much, drink too much, maybe watch some football if that's your thing, and just generally hang out with people you love for no reasons other than that.
I also love the food on Thanksgiving. I'm a fairly traditional person when it comes to this holiday - not for me the swanky gourmet dressing, the sweet potatoes, the not-turkey. I want everything on my plate to be brown, and if it's not (I do love green beans and asparagus), I'll make it brown by covering it with gravy. Christmas is when dishes can be more experimental/ham-based; for Thanksgiving, I want turkey, mashed potatoes, basic white-bread stuffing, gravy, and maybe a vegetable. That's it. And booze. Lots of booze. Can't have a family holiday without it!
So the questions this week are pretty simple, if American-based:
- What are you doing for the holiday? Hosting, going somewhere, ignoring it?
- What are your favorite Thanksgiving foods?
- Do you or your family have any fun Thanksgiving traditions?
Other than that, I got nothin' this week, except hopes that you and yours have an excellent Thanksgiving. If you don't celebrate Thanksgiving (or even if you do), what else is going on in your world this week?
