This week sees the arrival of the best day of the year. This Friday, December 21 - assuming the Mayans were wrong - is the Winter Solstice, and no, it's the best day of the year because it's the first day of winter. It's the best day of the year because it's the shortest day of the year; granted, there's still the whole unpleasant annoying winter to get through, but after Friday, the days slowly but surely start getting longer again, and that can only ever be a good thing.
No specific topic today, but here's a few things that might launch a discussion:
- The British high court quashed the original, horribly flawed and biased inquest into what happened at Hillsborough, opening the door for a new inquest into the deaths and hopefully revealing the truth about what happened on that awful afternoon.
- Tito Vilanova is reportedly suffering a relapse of the cancer he fought off in 2011. Barcelona will be making a statement later today.
- One of the absolute bestest things about Christmas is the annual appearance, on the Sound Opinions podcast, of Andy Cirzan. Cirzan has made it his life to hunt down bizarre and unheard Christmas music, and every year he makes a mixtape of his best finds over the course of the year and shares it with Sound Opinions. This year's is a soul-themed mix, and it's available here.
That's all I got this week. What's on your mind?
