Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong to miss rest of season with ACL rupture

Frimpong in action for Wolves.

According to the official club website, Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong, who was on loan at Wolverhampton, will miss the rest of this season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the match against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. Frimpong had missed a good deal of last season with the same injury in his left knee. According to the club, he is to see specialists in London, undergo surgery, and then start the lengthy rehab process.

More after the jump:

Star-divide

Frimpong, who is one of Arsenal's best young midfield prospects, had just moved to Wolves on loan in order to get some minutes, both Alex Song and Francis Coquelin ahead of him on the holding midfield depth chart. The young Ghanaian/English grafter is very much in the sort of Gennaro Gattuso mold, a small-ish but very strong bulldog. Many had thought that he needed to temper his aggressive play this year, but he brings tremendous energy onto the pitch whenever he plays, and he was quickly becoming a favorite amongst supporters for his workrate and personality.

He was already a year behind in his development, though, so this injury is particularly unfortunate. While it doesn't affect Arsenal directly at present, it remains to be seen what the long-term implications of this injury might possibly be. Fingers crossed he can recover quickly and get his development up and running again.

Everyone here wishes Mr. Frimpong a quick and speedy recovery.

The club's new medical center has definitely been the signing of the season

Again? Damn that sucks. He was starting to look good.

That’s his second knee tear in 2 years. Really tough for a young player to keep bouncing back from that.

Well, that sucks...

The only good news out of this is that 1.) It’s the other leg, so after this one gets fixed, he likely won’t have the issue again (somehow, repaired ligaments are actually stronger than the ones we originally have, or at least thats what my doctor said when I tore mine), and 2.) It happened in February, so he’ll probably be back on time for the start of next season

Repaired ligaments tend to be stronger because of physical therapy

The muscles around the ligament are strengthened and should be able to take more shock.

Yeah, actually one of the biggest post surgery risks is injuring the opposite knee.

The repaired knee becomes stronger so people often injure the opposite leg which can’t keep up.

So that'll make Frimpong titanium strength?

Awesome.
