This week's Fusillade will be Fusillate
Due to factors that are beyond anybody's capacity to care too deeply about, this week's Fusillade will be late. This is mostly my fault as I was unavailable all last week and into the weekend. Satellite internet is expensive and slow!
We are tentatively scheduled to record tomorrow, so all things being equal the next couple Fusillades will be like a bus; you wait forever for one and then two come along at about the same time.
As a note of apology, here is a cute kitten picture.

Off topic, but not worth its own post ...
… why are there draws in the FA cup? Those teams have to replay the game? Why not just golden goal or PK?

The Magic Of The Cup!
Mostly, at this point it’s economics. A replay means more money for teams, especially if a smaller team manages to scrape a draw against a big team.

Pretty much all about the money
Also because if you can’t finish the job the first time, then you get punished by having to play another game. Now off to the fields with you!

They'd never drop it now because of the money involved (remember last year when the owner of Leyton Orient sent the team to Vegas for earning a replay at the Emirates)
But the traditional philosophy in football has always been to play until there is a winner. Tie-breakers have always been very slowly and begrudgingly introduced and then quickly disposed of if possible. For international competitions, they ‘re necessary (you’ve only got a month to play all they games) but for domestic cups, the compulsion to keep playing out of fairness (and money) is hard to resist.
Captain, there are doubt''s...
So what if they draw again?
… at some point, the tournament needs to move on, no?

From wiki:
“Drawn replays are now settled with extra time and penalty shootouts, though until the 1990s further replays would be played until one team was victorious. Some ties took as many as six matches to settle; in their 1975 campaign, Fulham played a total of 12 games over six rounds, which remains the most games played by a team to reach a final.”
That's insane
but it’s also a different time. I don’t think the game was as competitive physically as it is now so there wasn’t so much emphasis on players being at peak physical level. Also, advertisers and sponsors (and fans and coaches, really) weren’t as demanding in terms of having a certain product on the field)

And remember
Extra time to settle games were rare—the World Cup had a replay built in until 1966.
Penalties were even newer. There was an idea that the best way to settle draws in cup games were to play them again, a tradition that is brilliant, in my opinion.

I absolutely love replays
but then I also absolutely love the FA Cup, so there’s that.

Ironic that a comment with the title "slackers" gets busted for improperly linking to an image!

How did I improperly link to an image?

A lot of sites don't like hotlinking of images and block them from view
It’s best to save a picture to photobucket or flickr or somewhere then link to it from there.

ahh gotcha, sorry guys, I just pulled it off of Google
You can delete it if you want

No need to delete it, it doesn't break a TSF rule ("improper" was probably too negative of a word)
Just remember for next time to use a photo service to host your pics before linking to them.

My 17 month old came out of the womb screaming *"Fuck Tottenham!", so I imagine the next one will follow suit.
