So even if the tackle is worse than the official thought you cannot give retrospective punishment. This is the case even when it is obvious upon review that the action in question was extremely dangerous and reckless and worthy of a red card/ban. Nothing will be done about it.
I'm disgusted by the FA's refusal to punish dangerous play based on a technicality. There's so much that could be said about how wrong this is.
