So it's another Tuesday not Wednesday NSSR, as I will be off the grid for the most part for a few days starting tomorrow.

As I mentioned in the last NSSR, last night was a very weird night for me - I went for a 50 mile ride after work, and was thus unavailable and unable to look at the internet or news until I got home at 7.45, when I turned on the Mariners game just in time to see Ichiro come to bat. For the Yankees. I'm not really upset about the trade - Ichiro's pretty well into his decline phase now, and he was going to be a free agent at the end of the season anyway - but it was definitely surreal, given that he had given no public indication of wanting a trade and given that I never thought the M's would trade away their franchise icon at this point.

I have been ambivalent about Ichiro the player for several years now, but Ichiro the dude is fantastic - from his outrageous wardrobe (he always shows up for Spring Training dressed like a teenage alien from the planet Zerbotron trying to fit in with the locals), to his amazingly profane All Star Game pregame speeches, to his always awesome soundbites. So long, Ichiro, you will be missed.

So that's my question for the week. What's the most surreal, weird - but not necessarily bad - moment you've witnessed (either in person or on TV) from your favorite athlete?

Anything else interesting you this week? I get the "pleasure" of seeing Aston Villa play the Timbers tonight - the last-place Timbers just got pasted 5-0 by Dallas, and Villa are Villa. Should be fun? Maybe? At least it's a nice night.
