It's the most frustrating agonizing delirious deranged torturous psychotic wonderful time of the year. Of course, that must mean we're in the final days of the summer transfer window. For many European leagues, the season is a couple weeks in and clubs are beginning to see what areas need depth and what players currently on the roster are expendable. For Arsenal, the current reality facing the club is that we're 180-plus minutes into a season without a goal to show for our effort. As Aidan pointed out, our main area of concern stems from the fact that we've lacked in chance creation, not a deficiency in shots converted.

The good news is that the main challengers for the EPL title and coveted Champions League qualification spots - save for red-hot Chelsea -have also slightly-stumbled out of the gates of the new season, so we're not in quite the zero win, two loss and one draw hole we were in this time last year. That said, with what appears to be cash on hand to spend, rumors abound of targeted players and thinly-veiled references from Arsene Wenger suggesting a possible acquisition or two, there's reason to believe that the next few days might be even crazier than last year. Last season, many of the late-arriving players were targets that only became known within a day or so of their signing with the club (Arteta, Mertesacker, Santos to name a few, considering all the other talked about names throughout last summer that failed to materialize like Montevideo and M'Vila).

Wenger is known to keep, for the most part, a tight lid on who his actual targets are due to our world-renowned scouting service and to protect our targets from becoming targets of our rivals (yes, that means you, Spuds), so the question I pose to you is this: With all the names being bandied around (M'Vila again, Niang, Cabaye, Tiote among a host of others), do you think that if we spend money before this Friday, Wenger will spend money on known targets, or can you foresee a player who's had little-to-no rumors suddenly arriving at London Colney?
