Ferguson Rules Out Nani Exit

Manchester United winger Nani, a reported Arsenal transfer target, has been told by his boss that he will not be leaving the Old Trafford club this January

Sir Alex Ferguson today squashed the speculation that his Portugese winger, Nani, will be exiting the club, despite speculation that he's unhappy with this role at United and in search of a new challenge that allows him regular playing time.

"He's injured," Ferguson told manutd.com. "His contract's not up for a year and a half. Yes, absolutely [he has a future at the club]. Why would I want to let him go? Obviously his people have been negotiating with [chief executive] David [Gill] about a new contract but I don't know what stage we are at with that. But we won't be letting him go.

With the continued grumblings coming out of Colney that Theo Walcott is set to sign a contract extension, along with the news yesterday that Johan Djourou and Sebastien Squillaci are a near-guarantee to move away from the club, spending precious transfer dollars for a player who plays exclusively on the right wing doesn't make a lick of sense for Arsenal. No matter how unlikely the potential move for the United winger was, the belief is still as strong as ever that Arsenal will be active in the transfer market this January. They will, though, have to eliminate one potential target from their list.
