I accomplished something fairly significant, for myself at least, this past weekend. I ran my first ever 5k road...well, I didn't consider it a "race", but it was a timed event at which there were prizes distributed. I wasn't in it for the race, though, I just wanted to run the course and see how I did. And after doing so, I can totally see why people run. I ran the course in 38:04, and at the end of it, while I was thrilled to have run it and done reasonably well, that four seconds pissed me off because just a few steps faster at the start and I would have broken 30 minutes.
I now want to run another 5k and train properly for it - I didn't really train for this run at all, outside my usual 12 mile round trip bike ride to work, because of a mix of sickness, being busy, and other life things which got in the way of training. I can't see myself ever wanting to do a half or full marathon, but I think with a proper training buildup I can probably get my time down to the low 30 minute neighborhood, which would be awesome.
What about you? Have you accomplished anything lately that you're really proud of?
Speaking of being proud of yourself, Mister Rogers is proud of you. He's also a much better human being than any of us have ever dreamed of being.
What else is going on this week?
